Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Private Security Industry.

Pat Carey

Question:

524 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to introduce legislation at an early date to regulate the operations of door security staff in nightclubs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7876/99]

The Government has approved my proposal to give effect to recommendations contained in the report of the consultative group on the private security industry for the establishment of a statutory framework for regulation of the industry. This would include regulation of door security staff. The proposal now forms part of the Government's legislation programme.

Work on the head of legislative proposals is at a preliminary stage in my Department but it is my intention to have the details of the legislation developed as soon as possible.
