Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Third Level Courses.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

604 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of CAO applicants for occupational therapy and physiotherapy in the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7837/99]

There is only one degree course in occupational therapy available in the State offered by Trinity College Dublin, while both University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin offer degree courses in physiotherapy. The statistical information on the number of applications to the Central Applications Office and the number of acceptances for these courses for the 1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99 academic years is outlined below. As the Deputy will see from these figures, the demand for places on these courses has decreased over the period while remaining very significant, with more than eight first preferences, on aggregate, for each place on offer in 1998-99.
