Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

606 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received a request from a person (details supplied) in County Offaly for psychological assessment in respect of her daughter; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that urgency attaches to this case for educational and medical reasons; if psychological assessment will be expedited and the results returned to the school and parent as quickly as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7890/99]

My Department has received a request for psychological assessment for the named student. The assessment was carried out in the school on 12 March 1999. On that occasion, an oral report was given to the guidance counsellor in the school. A written report will follow shortly. The student's mother will be offered an appointment during the next few weeks in order to discuss with the psychologist the findings from the assessment.
