Vol. 502 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Policy.

Question:

133 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the terms of reference for a report on infrastructural constraints to residential development has been agreed by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8538/99]

Measures to relieve any infrastructural constraints on housing development form a key element of the Government's strategy to maximise housing supply. The recent consultants' report, The Housing Market – An Economic Review and Assessment, recommended that any roads or public transport constraints should be identified together with other infrastructural developments considered necessary to permit development. Arrangements to identify any such constraints in major growth centres will be put in place in the near future. The Government is committed to provide additional resources to remove any significant constraints to housing development with minimum delay.
