Vol. 502 No. 4

Written Answers. - Non-Resident Companies.

Michael Ferris

Question:

49 Mr. Ferris asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has received the report of the interdepartmental group dealing with the problem of Irish registered, non-national companies; when she will bring forward legislation to deal with the problem; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8325/99]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that included in the Companies (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1999, which I published on Monday last, 22 March 1999, and which has been circulated to all Deputies, is a range of measures aimed at addressing problems created by Irish registered non-resident companies, IRNRs. These measures are set out in sections 42 to 48 of the Bill and will complement taxation measures which have been mentioned by my Government colleague, the Minister for Finance, Deputy McCreevy, in the current Finance Bill, currently before Seanad Éireann.

I am confident that the combined package of company law and taxation measures has the necessary elements to tackle the IRNR problem in a comprehensive and focused manner.
