Vol. 502 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Accommodation.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

107 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Defence if An Slua Muirí has been asked to vacate the old coastguard station at Dún Laoghaire harbour; the arrangements, if any, agreed with the harbour company for the accommodation of An Slua; the basis on which his Department withdrew its objection to the planning application for a marina at Dún Laoghaire; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8525/99]

Dún Laoghaire Harbour is now managed by Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company, a statutory commercial semi-State body. A memorandum of understanding was concluded with the company in October 1998 which will provide for the continued provision of facilities for An Slua Muirí in the coastguard station area. On foot of this agreement the Department withdrew its objections to the proposed development of a marina at the harbour. To date An Slua Muirí has not been requested to vacate its existing premises.
