Vol. 503 No. 2

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

194 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the policy of her Department in relation to a requirement for funds from the private sector as a pre-requisite to obtaining State funding towards arts projects; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9476/99]

The question of the provision of revenue or current funding for arts organisations is a matter for the Arts Council rather than for my Department. The Deputy will appreciate that as the council is an independent body operating under the Arts Acts 1951 and 1973 I have no function in its funding decisions or the conditions attaching thereto.
