Vol. 503 No. 2

Written Answers. - Army Hospitals.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

29 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has with regard to the Curragh Camp Hospital and all Army hospitals within the remit of his Department. [9423/99]

At present three military hospitals are being operated by the Army Medical Corps. They are, St. Bricin's Military Hospital, Dublin, the Curragh Military Hospital and the Military Hospital at Collins Barracks, Cork.

I am not at present considering any specific proposals in relation to Army medical services. However, the Defence Forces review implementation plan (1996-1998) raised the issue of reorganising the Army Medical Corps. In addition as Deputies will be well aware, the health services which serve the wider public are constantly reviewed and updated. I fully accept the need to periodically re-evaluate the Army Medical Corps to ensure that the services provided for military personnel match those provided elsewhere.
