Question:

150 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the number and appointment of personnel from the Naval Service who have resigned over the past twelve months; the number of these who are technical staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9449/99]

Ninety two personnel left the Naval Service in the 12 month period from April 1998 to the end of March 1999. The following table indicates the ranks involved and the relative number of departees who were regarded as technical staff.

Forty six departees – 50 per cent of the total – underwent discharge by purchase. The remaining 46 departures were accounted for as follows:
