Vol. 504 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Offices.

Liz McManus

Question:

16 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of institutions under her Department open to the public; the number of these institutions with access for people with disabilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11168/99]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the national cultural institutions namely, the National Gallery, the National Museum, the National Library, the National Archives, the National Concert Hall and the Irish Museum of Modern Art – those that are open to the general public in the course of their normal exhibition, research or performance remits.

All of these institutions have wheelchair access to a greater or lesser extent. Where access is limited plans are being developed in consultation with the Office of Public Works, which has responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the premises occupied by these institutions to improve the facilities.
