Vol. 504 No. 1

Written Answers. - Job Assist Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

61 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for the job assist scheme. [11234/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that based on the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer does not qualify for the special tax-free allowances available under the revenue job assist scheme.

In order to quality for revenue job assist, the person taking up employment must have been unemployed for the 12 months up to the date of taking up employment. During those 12 months the person must have been in receipt of one of the following payments from the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, viz. unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance or one-parent family payment.

According to the information currently available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer was not in receipt of any of these payments for the period immediately prior to his taking up employment.
