Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - High Amenity Landscapes.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

219 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 248 of 30 March 1999 his views on whether Cork harbour is a high amenity landscape; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12281/99]

As I stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 248 of 30 March 1999 my Department is preparing guidelines on high amenity landscapes to assist planning authorities in carrying out their planning functions. The designation of areas of high amenity landscape will continue, however, as at present to be a matter for each planning authority who are in the best position to assess landscaped amenity in their area. It would be inappropriate for me, therefore, to comment on the merits of this case.
