Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Bernard Allen

Question:

221 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he is considering an application made by an organisation (details supplied) in Cork for a capital grant towards the purchase of a permanent centre; and if an early decision will be made in view of the fact the centre is in danger of losing £150,000 secured from the European Regional Development Fund and £50,000 in matching funds from the Department of Health and Children if they cannot make up the shortfall of £200,000 for the purchase of a new centre. [11878/99]

I am aware that the group referred to in the Deputy's question has been in touch with my Department's regional office in Cork, regarding funding towards the purchase of a premises.

Officials from my Department have attended numerous meetings with this organisation, both on their own and in conjunction with other agencies whom they identified as possible funders. I am also aware that the Southern Health Board has given a commitment for £50,000 towards this project. This application for a grant is being considered at present. My Department will be in touch with them as soon as a decision has been made regarding their application.
