Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Phil Hogan

Question:

237 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, she has to carry out restoration work at Corludy Castle, Carigeen, County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12160/99]

While Corluddy Castle is included in the record of monuments and places for County Kilkenny produced by Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, and thus enjoys the protection provided under the National Monuments Acts 1930-94, it is not in State ownership or guardianship. As the resources at my disposal are fully committed to the conservation and maintenance of those monuments which are in State care, I do not have any plans to carry out restoration work at the castle.
