Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

288 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the position of secondary teachers on the panel with regard to their right to be considered for all temporary substitute positions including those of less than eight hours in similar subject areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12190/99]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the supplementary panel for temporary teachers.

This panel is set up each year by the independent administrator of the redeployment scheme for lay teachers in catholic secondary schools for the purposes of filling permanent vacancies in schools participating in the scheme. My Department has no function in relation to the operation of the panel.

Changes in relation to the operation of the panel are a matter in the first instance for the parties to the redeployment scheme, namely the religious-clerical authorities of catholic secondary schools and the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland.
