Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Representation.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

68 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the proposals, if any, he has to appoint new resident ambassadors. [12009/99]

I am very conscious of the small size of Ireland's diplomatic representation overseas relative to our increasing engagement in many parts of the world. There is an obvious need for a corresponding increase in our resident missions, particularly in the case of Brazil and Norway. Existing missions also need to be consolidated and strengthened. This will be done when the necessary financial resources are made available.
