Vol. 504 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Staff Screening.

Liz McManus

Question:

126 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the presence in hospitals, including operating theatres, of employees of suppliers and outside contractors; if so, if these personnel are screened; if patients are advised of their presence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12312/99]

The provision of services in hospitals is the responsibility of the hospital, including the implementation of the safety, health and welfare at work legislation. All employees, of any category, including outsourced workers, are included under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989.

The primary responsibility for implementation of the safety, health and welfare at work legislation, including training and vaccinations, under the Act, is a day to day matter which rests with the employer.
