Vol. 504 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospitals Capital Allocation.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

135 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give details of a capital allocation of £24 million to Portlaoise Hospital announced recently; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12438/99]

On 20 April 1999 my Department issued approval to the Midland Health Board to the outline development brief for the whole of Portlaoise General Hospital, and to the preparation of the protective outline development control plan for the whole hospital. This approval was subject to a construction cost limit for the whole hospital of £23.7 million.

The preparation of the outline development control plan is currently under way and is expected to be submitted by the board to my Department later this month.

When my Department has had an opportunity to consider the outline development control plan, I will be in a position to announce details of the priority developments for Portlaoise General Hospital.
