Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Theresa Ahearn – the need to discuss the non-use of the new fully equipped x-ray room in St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, due to lack of staff; (2) Deputy Enright – the concerns of many social welfare recipients in rural areas regarding access to payment of their pensions which may no longer be available at their local post office from next year; (3) Deputy McGennis – the need to enforce existing licensing procedures for petrol stations under the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972; (4) Deputy Ring – the need to confirm if there are any plans to cease the payment of social welfare benefits through An Post; (5) Deputy Browne (Wexford)– the need to appoint extra veterinary inspectors to County Wexford to enable owners of meat processing factories to operate to departmental standards and new meat processing licence applications to commence operations; (6) Deputy Aylward – the urgent necessity to discuss and update legislation governing the administration of planning permission; (7) Deputy Gormley – the current crisis in child care caused by the implementation of section 50 of the Child Care Act, 1991; (8) Deputy Coveney – the need for the Minister for Environment and Local Government to ensure a wheelchair accessible taxi service is available in Cork immediately; (9) Deputy Jim Higgins (Mayo)– the urgent need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Employment to ensure the IDA and Forbairt seek a replacement industry following the announced closure of TJT Limited, Kiltimagh, County Mayo; (10) Deputy Killeen – the need to put in place an independent mechanism to monitor the modus operandi and determinations of the Revenue customs and excise service; (11) Deputy Shortall – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to indicate the steps he intends to take on foot of a report which demonstrates that more than 50 per cent of children are admitted to adult hospital wards; (12) Deputy Crawford – the need to discuss the status of Monaghan General Hospital in the light of suggestions that major surgery would be phased out; (13) Deputy Finucane – the need to secure an alternative industry arising from the proposed closure of Giro Limited assembly plant in Newcastle West, County Limerick.

The matters raised by Deputies Gormley, Crawford, Aylward and Enright have been selected for discussion.
