Question:

85 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the new jobs created or announced in Donegal; when these jobs will come on stream; if she will report on the work of the special task force which was set up after the collapse of Fruit of the Loom; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12351/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 85 together.

On 4 May I announced 226 new jobs for Donegal in two new IDA Ireland and six Enterprise Ireland backed projects, as follows. PacifiCare Health Systems Incorporated is to set up an insurance processing centre in Letterkenny. It is expected to create 150 jobs within the next two years. PacifiCare plans to be in operation by this autumn. Sterling Fluid Systems is to set up an information technology centre in Letterkenny, creating 16 new jobs. Recruitment has already started. Gundry's Limited Killybegs, is expanding to create 18 new jobs by the middle of next year. Atlantic Marine Supplies Limited Killybegs, is expanding to create seven new jobs by the end of this year. Sean Ward (Fish Exports) Limited, Killybegs, has expanded to create 12 new jobs. Donegal Carpets Limited, Killybegs, will expand to create ten new jobs over the next three year. A newly established company, Scafftex Manufacturing Limited will create seven new jobs at Rossiger, Lifford, by the end of the year. Carrymacarry Networks Limited, Greencastle, is expanding to create six new jobs by the end of July.
These projects arise out of intensive promotion activity by the IDA and Enterprise Ireland in response to the pending job losses at Fruit of the Loom. I also announced that two further projects in the engineering sector, with potential for 300 new jobs, are at an advanced stage of negotiation. While there is no guarantee of success I am hopeful that these negotiations can be concluded successfully in the coming months.
The Donegal employment initiative is currently finalising a report which I expect to receive towards the end of this month.
