Vol. 504 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prisoner Conviction Investigation.

Michael Ferris

Question:

105 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the progress, if any, being made in the case of an Irish prisoner (details supplied) whose conviction is under active examination by the Criminal Cases Review Commission in England; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12373/99]

As the Deputy is aware, this case has been under investigation by the Criminal Cases Review commission since April 1997. The embassy in London has been in regular contact with the commission, with the prisoner's solicitor and with the prisoner himself. The commission indicated in a letter to the prisoner on 17 February 1999 that it was near ing the end of its investigations but no more definite information is yet available. The embassy will continue to closely monitor progress in the case.
