Question:

214 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status and grade of traffic wardens when first employed by his Department in 1979; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13083/99]

Traffic Wardens were appointed by the Garda Commissioner, as ‘authorised persons' under section 103 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended, by section 64 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968, and are designated as State industrial employees.
