Written Answers. - Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

153 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has sanctioned the suspension of the registrar of the Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13340/99]

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies is a body corporate established under the Institute for Advanced Studies Act, 1940, and responsibility for the general government of the institute is vested in the council of the institute. Section 17 of the 1940 Act provides that the council shall appoint the registrar, who holds office on such tenure and conditions as the council shall, with the approval of the Minister for Education and Science given with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, determine. The question of the suspension of the registrar is a matter for the council.
