Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

236 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when a decision will be taken on an application for grant aid by an organisation (details supplied) in County Galway for funding under the sports and recreational grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14351/99]

An application for financial assistance under the sports capital programme has been received from the club in question. This is one of almost 1,900 applications and will be considered when the grant allocations for 1999 are being made in accordance with the criteria for awarding such grants as set out in the terms and conditions of the new programme.

Given the large number of applications and the level of work involved in evaluating them, I do not expect to be in a position to make final announcements on the 1999 round of grant allocations for some time yet.

Michael Creed

Question:

237 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an application for grant aid under the recreational amenity grants scheme from a group (details supplied); and if he will provide a significant allocation to this project in view of the anticipated costs, the proposed benefit and the minimal amount of grant aid received to date. Bernard Allen

Question:

238 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the amount of grant allocated to a club (details supplied) in Cork; the amount paid; and the reason the remaining amount has not been paid. [14501/99]

A grant of £60,000 was allocated to the club in 1997 under the sports capital programme. To date, an amount of £39,000 has been paid to the club. The balance will be paid when the Deed of Trust, which is currently being arranged by the Chief State Solicitor's office and the solicitors acting on behalf of the club, has been executed.
