Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Alan Shatter

Question:

255 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange for an ex-gratia payment to be made to compensate a person (details supplied) for the difficulties she suffered in her employment in the Departments of Education and Science and Finance as a consequence of the allegations of child abuse and financial irregularities at St. Laurence's in Finglas made by her in 1988 and in subsequent years which led to the loss of her employment; and if he acknowledges the validity of the concerns expressed by her. [14316/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy was a former officer of the Department of Finance who was on loan to the then Department of Education for a period of approximately six months in 1987-88. She returned to the Department of Finance at the end of the loan period and subsequently retired from that Department. On retirement, she was awarded a pension and lump sum in accordance with the Superannuation Acts.

With regard to the concerns expressed by the person referred to in relation to St. Laurence's in Finglas, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to his oral Parliamentary Question No. 55 of 18 May 1999.
