Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Richard Bruton

Question:

257 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if a remedial service is being provided to St Mary's primary school, Parnell Avenue, Enniscorthy, County Wexford. [14333/99]

Ivan Yates

Question:

279 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if St. Mary's primary school, County Wexford, will be approved for a shared remedial teacher; if so, when approval will issue; and if the school will be communicated with in line with his national commitment in this regard. [14526/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 257 and 279 together.

My Department is currently making arrangements to ensure that all primary schools which are currently without a remedial service, including St. Mary's primary school, Enniscorthy, will be included in the service with effect from September 1999.
My Department will shortly be writing to all relevant school authorities advising them of the arrangements under which the remedial teaching service will be extended to their schools.

Austin Currie

Question:

258 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the arrangements, if any, made for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15 who is dyslexic and a number of other children in the area to travel to St. Rose's special school, Tallaght, for which they have been recommended; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14334/99]

I understand that the pupil referred to by the Deputy will be attending St. Rose's special school, Tallaght, from September 1999.

My Department is currently awaiting details from the school on all pupils requiring transport from September next. On receipt of this information, my Department will address the transport needs of the children in question, including the child to which the Deputy refers. The child's parents will be advised of the proposed arrangements.
