Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Third Level Entry.

Austin Currie

Question:

259 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the degree programme of a person (details supplied) is not recognised by the Irish Registration Council for admission to a place on a higher diploma in education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14335/99]

The holders of qualifications, which do not have general recognition, must apply to the registration council, on an individual basis, for recognition of the particular qualifications held for the purpose of securing an incremental teaching position in a secondary school.

The qualifications held by the person in question do not have general recognition. She applied for recognition for her qualifications on 30 April 1999. Her application is being processed in accordance with the council's normal procedures and she will be notified of the outcome in due course.

Admission of individual students on to the individual higher diploma in education programmes is a matter for the universities concerned.
