Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Services for Visually Impaired.

Richard Bruton

Question:

270 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has established a group to review provisions of service for visually impaired children; the representations, if any, he has given teachers on this group; and if he has satisfied himself that their service expertise is adequately represented. [14487/99]

I recently established a planning group for a national centre for the visually impaired. The composition of the group includes two members who are from a teaching background. In response to an invitation from the planning group, the teacher unions have made submissions on issues relating to the proposed centre for the visually impaired.

I am satisfied that the planning group has access to all the necessary expertise to enable it to successfully carry out its function.
