Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Paul Bradford

Question:

286 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of sites being considered for a proposed new second level school at Dunmanway, County Cork; the individual with responsibility for deciding on-site suitability; the criteria being used in this regard; when a final decision will be made; when construction will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14564/99]

My Department's building unit is considering two sites for the location of the new second level school in Dunmanway. Staff in the building unit of my Department are dealing with site suitability.

The criteria used to determine site suitability includes such matters as size, degree of access, availability of services, nature and structure of the soil, whether the site has any existing buildings or structures, cost implications of development of the site and related matters.

The process of site acquisition is invariably a slow one with the result that it is not possible to indicate at this stage when a final decision will be taken in this matter.
