Question:

37 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the provisions of the Local Government (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act, 1999, were notified to the local authorities; and the closing date for the receipt of nominations for the local elections on 11 June 1999. [14433/99]

The Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act, 1999, was signed by the President on 18 May 1999. The Bill, as passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas, was sent to local authorities on 13 May together with a summary of the main duties of local authorities under the Bill. Draft guidelines for candidates, national agents, designated persons and third parties were issued to local authorities on 19 May 1999.

The closing date for the receipt of nominations was 12 noon on Saturday, 22 May 1999.
