Vol. 506 No. 2

Written Answers. - Control of Infectious Diseases.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

222 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health and Children the formal out of hours on call arrangements in place in each of the health boards for the management and control of infectious diseases and, in particular, meningitis and E.Coli 0157; his views on whether these arrangements are satisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14820/99]

Arrangements for the management and control of infectious diseases are the responsibility of individual health boards. There are no formal out of hours on call arrangements in place in this regard. There is to be an overall review of the operations of the public health departments in each health board and this issue is one of the many to be considered in that context. It is hoped that this review will commence shortly.
