Vol. 506 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Jim Higgins

Question:

346 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason that the complaints of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 regarding alleged abuse of his children have not been followed up. [14834/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a sworn affidavit relating to this case was delivered to the Garda at the Bridewell station on 3 August 1996. This affidavit alleges sexual abuse of two children of the person named in the parliamentary question. A Garda investigation is ongoing.

I am sure the Deputy will understand that I do not wish to say anything at this time that might prejudice the outcome of the Garda investigation.
