Question:

367 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the degree, if any, to which sex offenders are allowed unsupervised day or other release terms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15498/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 366 and 367 together.

There were 339 convicted sex offenders in custody in Irish prisons on Thursday, 10 June. Persons serving sentences for sex offences are not granted periods of unsupervised temporary release.
