Vol. 506 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rates Liability.

Liz McManus

Question:

57 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Finance his response to the submission relating to rates made by a Montessori school (details supplied) in County Wicklow; and his views on the case made by this school. [16048/99]

I have received the submission referred to by the Deputy. Under existing valuation legislation the school is liable for the payment of rates. Amending legislation would be required to remove this rates liability. The Deputy will be aware that the Government approved the drafting of new legislation and this is expected to be available for publication later this year. The Government has yet to consider a number of issues relating to the proposed legislation. It is within this context that the submission made by the school mentioned will be considered.
