65 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the position of the VEC teachers formerly employed at the Army Apprentice School, Naas, County Kildare. [16662/99]

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

119 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the position regarding the former teaching staff at Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16959/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 65 and 119 together.

Two of the teaching staff employed at the former Army Apprentice School, Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare are currently employed at the Signals School, Curragh. At present, the Department of Education and Science is actively pursuing the possibility of redeployment to institutes of technology for the remaining staff members, in consultation with the staff concerned and with their trade union. The possibility of voluntary early retirement under the relevant Department of Education schemes also arises in some cases. My Department is keeping in touch with the Department of Education and Science in the matter.
