157 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he or agencies under his auspices will co-operate with other bodies in the provision of a library, community centre and Garda station at Confey, Leixlip, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17152/99]

Emmet Stagg

Question:

159 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has finalised consideration of proposals by Kildare County Council for the development of a new library at Newtown, Leixlip, incorporating civil offices, a community centre and a new Garda station; and if funding is in place for the proposal. [16835/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 157 and 159 together.

Proposals, including detailed design and costs, for the development of a library at Newtown House, Leixlip, were received in my Department from Kildare County Council on 19 June 1999, and are being examined in consultation with An Chomhairle Leabharlanna. If the proposals are approved, it will then be a matter for the local authority to seek tenders for the project.

A commitment to an allocation of grant aid for a particular library project is given following the submission by the local authority of its report on tenders received, and the approval by my Department of the selected tender.
Co-ordination of the library project with related projects on the same site is a matter for the local authority and the other relevant bodies.
