Vol. 507 No. 3

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

173 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if alternative sites have been considered for the proposal to erect a 30 metre telecommunications mast behind the new Garda station at Mayorstone, Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16857/99]

The Garda Síochána has an absolute operational requirement to maintain a telecommunications mast and ancillary equipment at the new Garda station at Mayorstone, County Limerick.

I understand that, in order to provide effective radio coverage in the Mayorstone area, the Garda mast must be sited within 120 feet of the telecom munications equipment room located within the Garda station. As a consequence, I understand that the current site for the proposed new mast is considered suitable and necessary.
