Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Children's Strategy.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

143 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress to date on developing a strategy for children; the areas which are included in the strategy; when it will be finalised; and the proposals, if any, for its implementation. [17189/99]

Preliminary work is proceeding on the preparation of a national children's strategy. The issues to be dealt with in the strategy have not yet been finalised but the strategy will be set in the context of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child and will address the issued raised by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in its concluding observations on Ireland's first national report under the convention. The aim is to publish the strategy in mid 2000 and it is intended that the strategy document will include proposals for implementation.
