Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

175 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received proposals jointly or separately from Kildare and Offaly county councils regarding the upgrading of the Enfield-Edenderry road; if he has or will offer funds to the National Roads Authority to carry out these works; if he has received any notification from the authority regarding the urgent need for these works; the extent, if any, to which he has responded; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17196/99]

Offaly County Council applied to my Department to have the Kishawanny Bridge project on the R402 road funded in 1999 under the EU co-financed scheme of non-national road grants. Funding of £100,000 was allocated by my Department and the project is now advancing. No other proposal has been prioritised to my Department by Offaly or Kildare county councils in relation to the R402. As this is a non-national road, there has been no communication with NRA in relation to it.

Overall non-national road grant allocations to Kildare and Offaly county councils stand in 1999 at £8.055 million and £4.397 million respectively; these represent increases of 14 per cent and 15 per cent on the original 1998 allocations and 39 per cent and 41 per cent on the 1997 figures.
