Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pedestrian and Cycle Facilities.

John Bruton

Question:

180 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the provision of safe foot and cycle paths between one town and another, on existing roads or otherwise, will be a priority in the Government's National Development Plan 2000 to 2006. [16277/99]

Policy responses to Ireland's transportation requirements must be based on an integrated approach, including increased investment in road infrastructure, improvement of public transport, promotion of other transport modes, including cycling and walking, management of transport demand and co-ordination of transport and land use planning. This approach will be reflected in the National Development Plan 2000-2006 and in the relevant operational programme.
