Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prison Release.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

209 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare currently in Shelton Abbey in respect of motoring offences will qualify for day release or parole; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17209/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy was sentenced to multiple sentences in relation to motoring offences and was committed to Mountjoy Prison on 8 June 1999. He was transferred to Shelton Abbey open centre on 17 June 1999 where he qualifies for half remission. He is due for release with remission on 7 December 1999.

As regard temporary release for prisoners, each case is considered on an individual basis on receipt of an application by or on behalf of the prisoner in question.
