Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cattle Movement Monitoring System.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

47 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the progress, if any, achieved with the cattle movement monitoring system for cattle traceability; the timetable for its completion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16530/99]

Implementation of the computerised cattle movement monitoring system (CMMS) is well advanced. It is already operational in relation to private sales and 70 per cent of livestock marts and, to date, some 1.2 million individual animal movements have been recorded. The system is being rolled out currently to meat export plants. Thereafter it will be extended to live export points and abattoirs producing for the domestic market. It is expected to have the system fully in place later in the year.
