Vol. 508 No. 2

Written Answers. - Suicide Levels.

Dan Neville

Question:

115 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the number, by gender, which committed suicide in the first six months of 1999. [18452/99]

Data on mortality are routinely published in the annual and quarterly reports on vital statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The most recent figures available refer to the first quarter of 1999 and show that there were 88 male deaths and 16 female deaths from suicide. These figures are provisional as they refer to deaths registered during January to March 1999 rather than deaths which actually occurred during that period.
