299 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if all future elections will have photographs of candidates in view of the experience at recent European elections held on 11 June 1999 at which candidates had their photographs included on the ballot paper; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey):

The question of extending the use of photographs to Presidential, Dáil and local elections is being considered in the light of the experience at the European elections. I am awaiting the completion of a report by Lansdowne Market Research on this matter which will also have to be considered.
