Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Case Against BNFL.

Ivan Yates

Question:

124 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the progress in relation to the legal case being taken against British Nuclear Fuels Limited by STAD. [19345/99]

The County Louth residents are taking a private legal action against BNFL. On the understanding that it is the responsibility of the residents to pursue this litigation, the Government has provided financial assistance to the residents towards the cost of research activities being undertaken by the residents in relation to their case. Some £127,000 has been paid to the residents to date.

In the light of the responsibility of the residents to pursue this case, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the progress of the action being taken.
