25 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if the Government remains committed to the introduction of an islander allowance; and the tax and social welfare proposals in this regard. [19117/99]

I wish to refer the Deputy to Dáil Questions Nos. 35 and 13 of 3 Bealtaine 1999. I indicated to the House then that as a budgetary issue I will be pressing that a final decision be made with regard to a special island allowance in the context of the next budget.
