Vol. 508 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

77 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Finance the progress to date on the planning of the new Garda station for Ballymun, Dublin; if a site has been agreed; if the design of the new building has been finalised; if consideration has been given to designating the new building as a new divisional headquarters for the Garda in view of the inadequacy of the existing accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19411/99]

Ballymun Regeneration Limited, a company established by Dublin Corporation to manage the redevelopment of the Ballymun area, has proposed a site for a new Garda station. My office's architects are currently carrying out a feasibility study on the site to determine if the Garda requirements for a city type station can be accommodated. The design of the new building cannot be finalised until the configuration of the site has been agreed. The type of station to be provided is a matter for the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
