Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of primary school pupils on the orthodontic waiting list in the Counties Sligo and Leitrim in the North-Western Health Board region; the number of secondary school pupils; the number which are post-primary school; and if he will give a breakdown by age. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of primary school pupils of the 1843 children on the orthodontic waiting list in the North-Western Health Board region; the number of secondary school pupils; the number of post-primary school pupils; and if he will give a breakdown by age. [19423/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 87 and 88 together.

The provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons in the North-Western Health Board area and the maintenance of orthodontic waiting lists are the statutory responsibility of the North-Western Health Board. Orthodontic treatment is carried out in two centres in the North-Western Health Board area, Letterkenny general hospital and Sligo general hospital. I have had inquiries made of the North-Western Health Board. I understand that the 1,843 children on the orthodontic waiting list referred to by the Deputy relates to the number of children up to age 18 in Letterkenny general hospital and up to age 14 in Sligo general hospital. The information received from the board is as follows:
