Vol. 508 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Centre Funding.

Liam Aylward

Question:

95 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children when funding will be approved for the refurbishment of a health centre (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [19418/99]

The provision and maintenance of the health centres in Kilkenny is the responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. Financial support from my Department for such projects, is given on the basis of the available resources, the competing demands on those resources and the priority the relevant health board attaches to the project in question.

I have been advised by the South-Eastern Health Board that the services being provided by Kilmanagh Health Centre are currently located in accommodation in the local national school. These services consist of two sessions per week of approximately one hour duration per session. The board has further advised me that there are no immediate plans for the relocation of this service.

96 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children when funding will be made available for the provision of a health centre (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [19419/99]

The provision of health centres in Kilkenny is the responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I have been advised by the South-Eastern Health Board that the local community at Lisdowney, with the assistance of the Barrow Nore Development Company and other local efforts have planned to build a community resource centre incorporating a general practitioner service, pre-school and social day care services for the elderly as well as access for other professionals as required. The community sought a contribution of £32,000 from the health board towards the cost of this centre. The South-Eastern Health Board has approved a contribution of £16,000 from 1999 resources and the balance of £16,000 is to be made available in 2000.
