Written Answers. - Treatment Centres.

Brendan Smith

Question:

99 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the stage of planning of the proposed regional assessment and treatment centre for children with physical disabilities to be located in Cavan as proposed by the North-Eastern Health Board and Cerebral Palsy Ireland; when funding will be allocated in respect of this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19434/99]

The proposal for a regional assessment and treatment centre for children with physical and sensory disabilities has been drawn up jointly by the North-Eastern Health Board and Cerebral Palsy Ireland and their comprehensive model for services and the costed business plan has the support of the local co-ordinating committee for physical and sensory disabilities. This proposal has been identified as a priority service development requirement for children with disabilities.

Discussions to secure funding for the entire project are ongoing at health board level and in the meantime funding has been allocated over the past two years for the provision of paediatric therapy posts.
